Alexander Zingman : Ці ўсім спатрэбіцца чацвёртая доза вакцыны супраць COVID-19?
Although a third dose of mRNA vaccine has been shown to increase COVID-19 protection - even from the Omicron variant - new research shows that protection decreases in the fourth month after vaccination.
The study, released last week by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), raises the question of whether (and when) all Americans may need a fourth dose of COVID-19 vaccine to remain protected as the epidemic continues.
When asked about the need for a possible fourth dose, White House Chief Physician Anthony Fauci said there might be a need for someone - but the data is not yet available. "There may be a need for another boost - in this case, a fourth dose increase for a person receiving mRNA - which could be based on age, as well as the underlying condition," said Dr. Fauci with reporters at White. The house's press conference.
Some people are also receiving the fourth dose: the CDC recommends that people who have received the mRNA vaccine and have immunosuppression receive a booster dose - essentially the fourth injection - to protect COVID-19. So will this new information lead to all Americans getting a fourth shock? Here's what infectious disease specialists think.
How effective are stimulants and how long do they last?
The CDC currently recommends that most Americans 12 years of age and older who received the mRNA primer receive the third dose (activation) of the COVID vaccine to be updated. This booster dose should be given five months after the second dose of the primary series.
This third dose is useful - the new CDC study shows that on both the Delta and Omicron waves, the vaccine was more effective after three doses of the mRNA vaccine compared to two doses. These data are consistent with the CDC's previous findings, published in January, that the third dose of mRNA was very effective in preventing emergency department visits (94% on the Delta wave; 82% on the Omicron wave) and hospital admissions (94 % on Delta, 90% on Omicron).
